“It is true, the facts are there on the public record”

Lateline 14 February 2014:

RICHARD MARLES: Let’s be completely clear, 90 per cent of the flow of boats had stopped by the time of the election.

JOSH FRYDENBERG: That is rubbish.

RICHARD MARLES: It is true, the facts are there on the public record. The policy difference which has had the effect is the PNG arrangement which Labor put in place and the best thing that this Government is doing is continuing on prosecuting the PNG arrangement.

Funny how we can’t even agree on statistics. See below to make up your own mind.

I’m going with Richard Marles. The PNG arrangement made a substantial difference while Operation Sovereign Borders is effective at the margins (and while we’re talking deterrence effectiveness, guestimates on restricting work rights and mandatory detention at about ~zero impact).
